Guided Paths

A little lost on what type of editing you need when in the revision process?
These guided paths are here to light your way.

How Guided Paths Work

Each guided path is a bundle of editing services designed to help you as you prep your novel for publishing.

The Series Foundation Path makes sure you start your new series on the right foot by laying the proper groundwork in Book 1. It's designed for authors who've written Book 1 in a planned series and want to make sure everything's ship shape before continuing to Book 2.

The Revision Kickstart Path points you in the right direction as you start your book revisions, reducing analysis paralysis and overall revision time. It's designed for authors who've just finished the first draft of their novel and want some guidance before they embark on revisions.

When you book a guided path, you get 10% off the price of the 3 editing services included in that path.*

Both paths start out with an Editorial Evaluation and a Mini Copyedit (more details below). I do both of these services back-to-back on my end, then send them both to you at once when they're complete.

Then it's your turn. With the Editorial Evaluation and Mini Copyedit as your guides, you'll revise and self-edit your draft until you're ready for the final service along the path. When you're ready, just send me an email. You'll have top priority in my editing calendar, so you'll get the next available slot as soon as it opens.

Both paths end with a coupon for $100 off a full manuscript copyedit, should you choose to book one in the future.* The coupon gives you top priority in my editing calendar again, so you'll get the next available slot as soon as you're ready.

Series Foundation Path

Editorial Evaluation

An assessment of the big-picture elements of the current draft, including characters, setting/ worldbuilding, plot, pacing, author voice, and writing mechanics, to highlight what's already in great shape and what might need some more revisions. Bye, plot holes!

You'll get a better understanding of the story's strengths and weaknesses, plus a personalized plan for your next revision steps.

Step 1

Step 2

Mini Copyedit

A thorough, word-by-word edit of 7,000 words from the current draft, looking at clarity, continuity, consistency, conciseness, and correctness in the writing mechanics. Typos hate to see me coming!

The mini copyedit helps you see your own personal writing habits and glitches so that you know what to focus on during self-editing.

Story Bible

A giant database filled with every detail in the story, from character profiles to location details to lists upon lists of vocabulary, magic system rules, organizational structures, or whatever your unique story world needs. Never forget another detail!

A story bible not only lets you keep your lore on point, it can even inspire future books in the series.

Step 3

Step 4

$100 off a future copyedit

Get $100 off a full-length copyedit of your finished novel to make sure all the final nuts and bolts are in the right places. The exact same thing as the mini copyedit, except for the entire book this time.

Blurb Alignment Audit

A check over the back cover blurb of your book to make sure it matches the story that's going between the covers. What impressions are the blurb structure, word choices, emotional tone, and story elements listed giving? I'll be the bridge between author and reader!

The blurb alignment audit makes sure the impression readers get and the story they end up reading match up as closely as possible.

Terms & Conditions

1. 10% Discount

The 10% off discount only applies to the first three services in the Guided Path. It does not apply to the final full-novel copyedit. In addition, the 10% discount can only be used when the Guided Path is booked as a bundle. In order to book as a bundle, 50% of the total cost must be paid before the start of the Editorial Evaluation (the first service on both paths). Payment plans are available.

2. $100 off full-novel copyedit

The full-novel copyedit must be booked within 12 months of the completion of the third service along the path (either the story bible or the blurb alignment audit, depending on the path). If the full copyedit is not booked within 12 months, the discount cannot be applied. There is no refund or cash back for an unused discount. This is a coupon, not a gift certificate.

3. Copyediting

I work in US English, referencing the Chicago Manual of Style and the Merriam-Webster Unabridged dictionary for edits. If your book is written in Canadian, UK, Australian, or another regional English, I might not be the best copyeditor for you. Consider booking services separately rather than booking a Guided Path.

4. Editing calendar priority

When you book a Guided Path, you get the highest priority in my editing calendar. This means you get first pick when new editing slots become available. However, I'm not a time god—I can only fit so much editing within a single month. That means you still might have to wait for editing slots to open, even with your priority status. Thank you for understanding.
